Glass Eye 2000 Dragonfly Tutorial

Are you afraid to tackle big design projects, intricate patterns, bevel layouts, etc? Let us introduce you to the Dragonfly design program and send those worries packing. We’ve been using it for a number of years now and continue to be impressed with its versatility.

This 2-hour workshop covers all the basics from auto tracing, drawing straight lines, curves, various shapes, reflection, rotation, resizing, inserting glass colour and texture selections, numbering pieces, calculating glass quantities and costs, etc., etc. Once you get started you’ll discover endless possibilities.

Ideally, you should bring along your lap top to download Glass Eye’s 30-day free trial or, just pull a chair up to our desk top computer and prepare to be amazed!

Tiffany Reproduction Lamp Tutorial

We’ll walk you through every step of handcrafting a stunning Tiffany-style lampshade and inspire you to completion. Lori and Penny will be working right along with you on a shade of their own.

The orientation session will help you pick the pattern of your choice so that we can order all the components for your project. With input from all participants, we’ll determine the best date and time for our monthly check-in – a time to compare notes and problem solve as we encourage each other to stay the course.

In order to launch this course at the end of September, please let us know you're interested by June 30th.

Morton System Simplified

Once you’ve mastered the Morton System of measuring and cutting, you’ll never go back to your cumbersome assortment of cutting bars, rulers, pins and T-squares.

$80+tx - $25.00 will be refunded when you buy the Portable Glass Shop and grid.

Finishing Techniques

Proper fit every time means tightly mitred corners and no wasted came. You’ll learn how to save time and money too.

Plus, we’ll teach you all the tricks of the trade when it comes to making and installing the right hook for any project from tiny suncatchers to large beveled windows.


Soldering Savvy

Not thrilled with how your soldering looks? It ain’t rocket science but there are some basics that you might not have mastered yet. Let us refresh your memory in a calm and encouraging atmosphere.

1/2 Hour session, Cost: $40.00 +tx

Panel Lamp Class

Canadians may be known for our duct tape but in this course you’ll learn many useful applications for plain, black, electrician’s tape. For those of you with copper foil experience, here’s a chance for you to learn 3-dimensional construction techniques while making a beautiful and useful lamp.

Students can choose from a range of lamp patterns. Over four weeks you’ll have the opportunity to perfect your cutting and soldering techniques while learning the ins and outs of spiders, vase caps, skirts, crowns, and other aspects of panel lamp construction. We’ll even introduce you to “George’s Arm”.

This course involves four, three-hour classes and, due to the individual nature of this project, there will be opportunities for unsupervised studio time, outside of scheduled class time, using our tools and equipment.

Price: $300 + tx *Note: Students will be responsible for providing their own glass, lamp base, spider and/or harp.

1-On-1 Personal Instruction

Can’t find a time or day or course that works for you? Let us work with you at your pace your schedule. We will arrange a time for independent study with one of our knowledgeable and talented staff. You can focus on a single skill, such as soldering, or we can walk you through the basics of cutting glass all the way to designing and completing an entire stained glass panel. It’s your choice and your time; use it to your advantage.

3 Different Ways to Pay:

  • Studio hourly rate at the time.

  • Take a personal Introduction to Copper Foil Course during regular Studio hours (Check with Lori for pricing)

  • Consider taking a personal Introduction to Copper Foil Course outside of regular Studio hours (evenings/week ends). Discuss it with Lori.

Studio Time

No room to work at home? Worried about young children getting into your glass and chemicals? Teenagers getting on your nerves? Why not pamper yourself with some uninterrupted hours of work/play in the fully-equipped Cranberry Stained Glass Studio? (Comes complete with Lori's bad jokes and use of our coffee maker.)

Cost: $18/hour.  $150.00 for 10 hour package.  Longer terms can be negotiated. – use at your convenience during scheduled studio operating hours.

Friday Afternoon Project Club

Be part of our studio. Sign up for six afternoons – Fridays, 1 – 4pm – to work on your own projects (Stained Glass, Fusing, Mosaics...whatever!)in the company of other glass enthusiasts. Enjoy shared camaraderie, knowledge, skills and humour (such as it is at the end of a work week).

No scheduling required and you can pick and choose your own Fridays! Vacation...no problem! Only once and a while...no problem! Want to do it every Friday...no problem! We keep a punch card here to keep track.

Bring your own tools and supplies if you like but use our big power tools.

Coffee break included.
