Kiln Fusing Courses

Fun Introduction to Kiln Fusing

The mysteries of Kiln Fusing will be revealed as we experiment with layering glass and shelf paper, painting on glass, using sparkly dichroic glass, wire inclusions, stringers, noodles and frit, talk about the basics of fusible glass,  kiln shelf preparation and, give detailed firing instructions for those hot boxes in our back room.

The course projects are flexible enough to let your imagination run wild and, for those “without a creative bone in my body”, we have patterns and designs all ready for you. No glass experience is necessary. Projects will be fused over night and ready for pick up the next day.

Intermediate Kiln Fusing

This is a 2-part course and Part I is primarily play!

You’ll start by picking a project, most likely a plate or bowl, then cutting and fusing a blank – the perfect time to review kiln-firing programs. Ever drilled holes in glass, used a cake decorator to apply kiln wash, fused a picture of your pet to a plate? We’ll teach you all the tricks and techniques.

And that’s just Part I. Once the blank is fused and cooled, it’s time to go 3D! In Part II you’ll pick a mold, prepare it for slumping or draping and properly programme the kiln for that perfect plate or bowl. We’ll discuss how to care for molds to get the most out of them. This class will have you dreaming outside the box and planning your next project even before the class ends.

Cost for both Parts I and II combined: $250.00. Common kiln-firing supplies are included in the price; however, students are required to buy their glass at CSGSS at the time of the class.
